Dux Qest piping replacement

Dux Qest was the first plastic piping to replace copper, installed in 20,000 to 40,000 New Zealand homes through the 1970s and 80s. It’s now well known for failing.

Why it fails

In the late 80s the product made headlines as it began to fail in homes across the country, and Dux Industries withdrew it from the market.

Most leaks happen where the acetyl elbows and tees crack at the throat of the joint. Some pipes also split lengthways when under tension.

Many homes of that era have their main pipe runs in the ceiling. In summer the roof space gets very hot, the pipes expand, and they break down and start to leak.

Check your insurance

Most insurance companies only cover the first leak and the damage it causes.
